Reinstalling the firmware


In the following you will find advice on reinstalling the firmware of the following devices:


We use open source software. The licensing information and source codes for the open source software we implement can be accessed here.

HowTo complete (Re-)Installation of Raumfeld firmware


Reinstall firmware for Raumfeld Expand

Note: Reinstalling the firmware deletes all user settings!

Please first download the file "base2.img" and copy it to a USB stick:

> http://updates.raumfeld.com/images/base2.img

Then perform the following steps:
  1. First remove the Expand's power plug for at least 30 seconds.
  2. Then, connect the USB stick to the USB port of the Expand
  3. Press and hold the reset  button on the back of the device while you attach the Expand's power plug in order to start it.
  4. Please press and hold the setup button for 10 more seconds.
  5. After max. 30 seconds the outer and inner LEDs will start to blink alternatingly. This indicates that the recovery has been started. Please note that the recovery may take up to 5 minutes. After that, the Expand will reboot automatically.
The LEDs inform you about the current status of the installation:

- Firmware is loaded (left LED permanently lit; max. 2 minutes)
- Firmware is installed (outer and inner LEDs blink in alternation; max. 5 minutes)
- Installation is complete (LEDs blink from left to right)

Once the installation is complete please remove the power plug.Wait at least one minute before you start the Expand e by reattaching the power plug.
Subsequently you may perform a fresh setup as described in chapter Setup of a New Raumfeld System.


Reinstall firmware for Raumfeld Connector (no external antena, for older hardware see below)

Note: Reinstalling the firmware deletes all user settings!

Please first download the file "connect2.img" and copy it to a USB stick:

>http://updates.raumfeld.com/images/connect2.img

Then perform the following steps:
  1. Remove the power supply of the Connector. Please also perform this step if the Connector is off already.
  2. Then, connect the USB stick to the Connector's USB port.
  3. Put a paper clip into the reset opening on the back of the device.
  4. Press and hold the paper clip while you plug in the power supply of the Connector. Make sure the button in the reset opening remains pressed down with the paper clip.
  5. Press and hold the paper clip while you plug in the power supply of the Connector. Make sure the button in the reset opening remains pressed down with the paper clip.
  6. Please press and hold the paper clip for 10 more seconds.
  7. The installation has been started and may take up to 5 minutes.
The LEDs inform you about the current status of the installation:

- Firmware is loaded (left LED permanently lit, then right one; max. 1 minute)
- Firmware is installed (both LEDs blink in alternation; max. 3 minutes)
- Device is rebooted (left LED permanently lit, then right one; max. 1 minute)
- Installation is complete (left LED permanently lit, right LED blinks every 5 seconds)

Subsequently you may set up the device as described in the installation manual.


Reinstall firmware for Raumfeld Connector (sold until 2013, has one external antena, not in stock anymore)

Note: Reinstalling the firmware deletes all user settings!

Please first download the file "connect.img" and copy it to a USB stick:

Then perform the following steps:
  1. Switch off the Connector by pressing and holding the On/Off button for 10 seconds. Please also perform this step if the Connector seems to be off already.
  2. Then, connect the USB stick to the Connector's USB port.
  3. Put a paper clip into the reset opening on the back of the device.
  4. Press and hold the paper clip while you switch on the Connector by briefly pressing the On/Off button.
  5. Please press and hold the paper clip for 10 more seconds.
  6. The installation has been started and may take up to 5 minutes
The LEDs inform you about the current status of the installation:

- Firmware is loaded (left LED permanently lit, then right one; max. 1 minute)
- Firmware is installed (both LEDs blink in alternation; max. 3 minutes)

Reinstall Raumfeld Speaker 1. Gen (all speakers without station keys except Stereo Cubes)

Note: Reinstalling the firmware deletes all user settings!

Please first download the file "speaker.img" and copy it to a USB stick:

Then perform the following steps:
  1. Switch off the Speakers by pressing and holding the On/Off button on the front panel for 10 seconds. Please also perform this step if the speakers seem to be off already.
  2. Then, connect the USB stick to the active speaker's USB port.
  3. Put a paper clip into the reset opening on the back of the active speaker.
  4. Press and hold the paper clip while you switch on the Speakers by briefly pressing the On/Off button.
  5. Please press and hold the paper clip for 10 more seconds.
  6. The installation has been started and may take up to 5 minutes.
The LEDs inform you about the current status of the installation:

- Firmware is loaded (left LED permanently lit, then right one; max. 1 minute)
- Firmware is installed (both LEDs blink in alternation; max. 3 minutes)
- Device is rebooted (left LED permanently lit, then right one; max. 1 minute)

Reinstall Raumfeld Speaker 2. Gen (all speakers with station keys and Stereo Cubes)

Please first download the file "speaker2.img" and copy it to a USB stick:

Then perform the following steps:
  1. Switch off the Speakers by pressing and holding the On/Off button on the front panel for 10 seconds. Please also perform this step if the speakers seem to be off already.
  2. Then, connect the USB stick to the active speaker's USB port.
  3. Put a paper clip into the reset opening on the back of the active speaker.
  4. Press and hold the paper clip while you switch on the Speakers by briefly pressing the On/Off button.
  5. Please press and hold the paper clip for 10 more seconds.
  6. The installation has been started and may take up to 5 minutes.

Reinstall Raumfeld Soundbar or Sounddeck

Note: Reinstalling the firmware deletes all user settings!

Please first download the file "speaker2.img" and copy it to a USB stick:

Then perform the following steps:
  1. Switch off the Speakers by pressing and holding the On/Off button on the front panel for 10 seconds. Please also perform this step if the speakers seem to be off already.
  2. Then, connect the USB stick to the devices USB port. Put a paper clip into the reset opening on the back of the device.
  3. Press and hold the paper clip while you plug in the power supply of the device. Make sure the button in the reset opening remains pressed down with the paper clip.
  4. Please press and hold the paper clip for 10 more seconds, then relase it.
The installation has been started and may take up to 5 minutes.


Reinstall firmware for Raumfeld Controller (former controller hardware, not in stock anymore)

Note: Reinstalling the firmware deletes all user settings!

Please first download the file "control.img" and copy it to a USB stick:

Then perform the following steps:
  1. Switch off the Controller by pressing and holding the On/Off button for 10 seconds. Please also perform this step if the Controller seems to be off already.
  2. Then, connect the USB stick to the Controller's USB port (right rubber lid).
  3. Put a paper clip into the small opening (reset function) under the left rubber lid.
  4. Press and hold the paper clip while you switch on the Controller by briefly pressing the On/Off button.
  5. Only remove the paper clip when the display is lit and you can see a black logo on white background.
  6. Should a white logo on black background be displayed the Controller does not properly access the USB stick. In this case please try again from the beginning.
  7. The installation is complete when the setup assistant is displayed.
